Prosperity and happiness came to an end, when the news that the Federal Government needed the land to build an air base that came to be known as Ramey Air Force Base. In September 1939, some 3,796 acres (15.4 km2) covered by sugar cane, was expropriated for the military.

Ramey Air  Force Base Puerto Rico, base exchange, 1953/54?  My father's comment reverse
says  'they have a beer garden, cafeteria, steak house, beauty shop, barber shop, deli, post office and main store. To the right not shown is the base theatre and across the street from that is the ice cream joint (American style).'

The Chapel, Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico

My Dad's note on the back of this card states 'They have just started on a new chapel. It will be just like the new one in Lake Charles.'  Written 1954?. Lake Charles La. had been our previous posting .

This is my father's handwriting . He is obviously pleased with his lot. The photo shows what must have been a newly built hospital. The parking lot has not yet been paved.
